The 10-point charter
- Reduce GHG emissions by at least 5% per annum with a base of 2020 in the hope of helping Kenya achieve its ambition to abate 32% by 2030. Key interventions include increasing use of renewable energy, energy efficiency, low-carbon technologies, use of clean, efficient, and sustainable energy technologies to reduce over-reliance on fossil and non-sustainable biomass fuels and sustainable waste management, climate-smart agriculture, growing trees and managing forests and curbing deforestation.
- Integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation actions into business models and strategic business plans and value chains and invest in adaptation technologies.
- Enhance adaptation investments in operations and value chains by investing in actions such as reduction of water consumption, increase in water use efficiency, wastewater management, early warning, and emergency response systems, and overall production efficiency in line with the priorities espoused in the Kenya National Adaptation Plan.
- Raise awareness and build capacity of the private sector to map out their green gas houses emissions hotspots and mainstream and design emission reduction strategies and training modules to build technical capacities for combating climate change in business.
- Invest in low-carbon and climate-resilient projects to ensure that changing climate conditions and potential climate change mitigation and adaptation measures are considered during the development, design, and implementation of investment projects.
- Develop green products and services that are climate sensitive products and services to encourage the path toward strengthening climate resilience between local, regional, and international private sectors.
- Integrate gender equality considerations within the climate change planning processes to enhance climate change mitigation and adaptation outcomes through the promotion of gender-responsive climate technologies and innovation in the private sector as well as the provision of financing and capacities targeting youth and women.
- Develop sustainability strategies for Business Enterprises including Net Zero plans, implementation, monitoring the progress of emission reduction and sustainability reporting.
- Develop standards and policies that will enable organizations to integrate climate change as well as other sustainability-related matters.
- Contribute to national and regional climate change negotiations and provide inputs on critical issues on climate change and enhance private sector technical capacity on climate change negotiation skills.
